El Violin – Over the years, violinist Patrick Contreras has reinvented himself; whether it was doing hip-hop and dub-step covers or playing with a feedback laden Hendrix-style rock trio. His latest project, El Violin, takes another turn, playing what Contreras calls “Chicano violin music.” The band releases the first part of a two-part EP of original music on Friday. KC and the Sunshine Band – If you’re into booty-shaking, boogie-down good-time music performed by a band that made it famous (and not just for weddings and sporting events), you’ll be happy to know KC is still around. El Tri – For fans of old-school rock en Espanol (and not the soccer team). The band originally formed in Mexico City in 1968. Zeppelin USA – This week’s best-bet tribute concert is the Led Zeppelin tribute band ZUSA (short for Zeppelin USA). Kansas – Last year marked the 40th anniversary of “Leftoverture,” the album that put Kansas in the classic rock canon alongside Boston and Styx. Mostly, it was the album that had “Carry On My Wayward Son.” The band turned its anniversary into a tour and a live album. “Leftoverture Live and Beyond” is out this November. Reggae on the Kings – Reedley’s Wakehouse continues to establish itself as a live music venue. Here we get an all-day reggae festival with both national acts (The Expanders, Inna Vision) and locals (Simple Sinsation, Irie Essence and Lively Soul).
